For parents and guardians
A safe place to learn.
sparkk runs free STEAM classes for young people, and keeping them safe is the first thing we design for. Here is exactly how.
Report a concern
If something happened at a class that worries you — about a volunteer, another participant, or anything to do with a child's safety — tell us. You do not need an account, and you can file anonymously. Reports about safety go straight to the sparkk core team.
File a reportIf someone is in immediate danger, call 911 first.
Where classes happen
Every sparkk class takes place inside a public library branch — an open, staffed community space. We never hold classes in private homes or unsupervised locations.
All materials are provided at no cost to families.
Who teaches
Our instructors are student and community volunteers who are passionate about sharing what they know. Every instructor signs our Code of Conduct before teaching their first class — this is a required step in our onboarding process, not an optional formality.
Chapter leadership knows who each instructor is and reviews their proposed class before it is approved.
Where local or state law requires background clearances for volunteers who work with young people, we are committed to following those requirements. We encourage families to ask their chapter leadership about the specific policies in their area.
Your consent, your control
A parent or guardian must give consent before any child under 13 can enroll in a sparkk class.
You decide which classes your child takes part in. Enrollment is always your choice.
Photos of your child, and any of their work, appear publicly only with your separate, explicit permission. We do not assume consent — we ask for it.
Privacy for young people
We never publish a child's email address or contact details.
We never identify a child by name in a public photo.
You can ask us to remove your family's information from our records at any time. We honor data-deletion requests promptly and completely.
If anything ever concerns you, you can reach your chapter's leadership or the sparkk core team directly — and we will respond.
Contact usWhat we ask of families
Help your child arrive on time and arrange for them to be picked up when class ends.
Let the instructor know about any needs or accommodations so we can make the experience comfortable for your child.
Reach out with any questions — before, during, or after a class. We would always rather hear from you.
