Our teachers are students. They learned it, then they taught it. That's the whole model.

Everything you give comes back counted.

Teaching and volunteering hours are recorded in the app, then reviewed by a person — not by a counter on a page. Here is the whole process.

Step one

You log the hours you actually worked — the date, the class, what you did.

Step two

Your chapter lead reviews the entry and approves it, or asks you about it first.

Step three

At the end of a run, the library signs off on the approved totals for that chapter.

Students can become teachers.

Any student who takes a class here can apply to teach one. The invitation is open to every learner who wants it.

Yes. Every class and resource is free. sparkk is a student-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit, fiscally sponsored by HCB. No credit card, no catch.

Do I need experience?

No. Our teachers are high-school and college students who learned by doing. If you can explain something you care about, you can teach it here.

01Come to a classSit down in a library and learn something new. No experience, and no commitment past the class itself.

02Help at a classAssist a teen teacher for a single session — set up the room, hand out materials, sit with the kids who get stuck.

03Teach your own classPropose a subject you already love and run it free at a library. Most sparkk teachers are teenagers.

04Start a chapter at your libraryBring sparkk to a library that does not have it yet. This is the biggest rung, and the one that reaches the most kids.
